I never got why baseball managers have to wear a team uniform. I remember how ridiculous my father looked liked when he managed his own baseball little league teams. He's a fat middle-aged man that could barely run on the field to argue with the umpires. It was funny thing to watch but also sad since it was my own father after all.
I've always thought that was a bad look for middle aged men and also baseball uniforms are way uncomfortable too (second to football). The issue stagnated with me for while. It wasn't until I was at a Cubs game last year when I got to see Lou Pinella up close and personal. Yes, I had great seats. The poor guy looks awful and must be so damn uncomfortable in that outfit. His pot-belly is dying to pop off that belt and hang loose in Wrigley.
I was recently talking to a friend of mine about this issue that I have with baseball and my friend got all defensive saying that a manager is an official member of the team and has to wear a team uniform. Yes, I know it's a tradition and team policy but is it really too late to change this? I forgot which friend said this but it annoyed me because he was actually sticking up for this stupid tradition. He's one of those uptight dickheads. Do you really think that Pinella at this point in his life can hit a fastball and run all three bases? Official team member my ass. It's time that we stop publicly humiliating these guys. Can we just let these guys wear a baseball cap, a polo shirt with the team's logo and same slacks? I hate to sound like Anna Wintour over here but it kills me to have to see this. I can't even laugh at them anymore.
Take a look at this clip in case you have no idea how ridiculous this look is...
