1. Halloween - The same says it all. John Carpenter started the slasher genre.
2. A Nightmare On Elm Street - I grew up idolizing Freddy Kruger and it made my 1st grade teacher nervous.
3. The Exorcist - Scariest fucking movie ever. I still hate to watch it. It's probably because of years of Catholic school.
4. Friday the 13th part 3 - This is when Jason finally gets the hockey mask and the franchise finally got its face.
5. Evil Dead 2 - One of my all-time favorite movies. It's a must for anybody that enjoys good horror and comedy.
6. A Clockwork Orange - This Kubrick classic shows us a nightmarish future where we can lose ourselves to be good.
7. Batman Begins - It's a dark take on a classic hero and Cillian Murphy is perfect as the Scarecrow. Not really for the kids.
8. Rosemary's Baby - Polanski is a scumbag in real life but this movie is just brilliant.
9. The Crow - Classic film from my teenage years. I haven't seen it in a while but I just might have to pop in this DVD over the weekend. Great film and an excellent soundtrack. Brandon Lee would have been huge had he survived that awful accident. This movie was the perfect blend of action and horror.
10. Saw - I loved the first one and haven't bother to watch the other 5 sequels. This movie was an instant classic the moment it came out.
Honorable mention: Scream - This 1990's classic still holds up and well. It also launched the careers of so many actors. Too bad Skeet Ulrich didn't survive in real life.
Hostel (parts 1 and 2) and also anything by Quentin Tarantino.
Yes, I know some of these picks are not all in the horror genre but movies like Clockwork and Batman for me always set up the Halloween mood for me. Anyways, enjoy the weekend!
