Forgiven: Thomas Jane

I officially forgive Thomas Jane for that awful Punisher movie.  It actually wasn't his fault.  The script was awful and the rest of the casting sucked (John Travolta need I say more?).  He actually did do a good job in that movie.  He bulked up for the part and intensely read up on the comics.  The Punisher is one of my favorite comic book characters ever and they've already made three movies which have all sucked.  Did anybody see the last one?  Why did was the villain Michael Jackson?  Oh, wait!  Sorry it was the gangster Jigsaw.  Yes, the movie sucked that bad.  It's not even rental material.  Actually not even cable.  Ok, maybe worth watching a clip or two on youtube just for laughs.

You would think that The Punisher with it being about a salty anti-hero that has no superpowers or rich-boy gadgets like Batman, it would be an easy movie to make about a guy that has a cool arsenal of guns that he knows how to use well.  All does is hunt down the bad guys and kills them.  When the 2004 movie came out, I blamed Thomas Jane which in retrospect was unfair.  The guy did his part but the producers didn't.  During the last five years, any project that involved Mr. Jane, I'd assume it sucked.  I was wrong.  After watching Hung, he's proven to me that he's a great actor and I recently caught some of Deep Blue Sea the other night and I have to admit the guy has skills.  Let us not forgot his memorable performance as the sleazy Chip N' Dales dancer from Boogie Nights.

So after years of bashing this fine actor, I take back every awful thing I've ever said about him.  If you haven't seen Hung yet, then you must because it's a well-written show and obviously brilliantly acted.
