Public Enemies just made another enemy

I just got back from watching Public Enemies tonight with my brother and we both walked out of the film with disappointment and disgust.  It's official that Michael Mann is the most overrated director in Hollywood.  I hate that he makes big over budget films with a video camera.  His movies look cheap and they're all 45 minutes too long.  I obviously loved his work from the 1980's but everything since Heat has been terrible.  I hated his Muhammad Ali movie (which put me to sleep on two different occasions).

As for Public Enemies itself, I will say that Johnny Depp was solid and Christian Bale wasn't as bad as I thought he was going to be.  Why is a Bale on such a slump?  He's been a great actor in the past but he's been awful since The Dark Knight.  The worst acting in the film belonged to Billy Crudup for his portrayal of J. Edgar Hoover.  It was truly laughable.

Did I mention that I hate that they filmed this movie with a fucking video camera?  Oh, yeah.  I did.  I just had to say it again because it feels like I'm watching a 2 1/2 hour rehearsal film.  I'm begging the Hollywood establishment to please make Michael Mann stop using video camera on big budget films.  It's retarded and also he needs to not drag out the plot on characters that we don't care about too.  Ok, I have spoken my piece.  I'm going to get caught up on Bill Maher's show now.  Good night.
